Health Sci’s outraged that program requires health, science courses

The Dean of Health Sciences called an emergency staff meeting Friday as fifteen angry Health Sciences students booked all the HSL study rooms to protest the inclusion of health and science courses in their curriculum.

“We just want the faculty to hear our voice,” said second-year BHSc student Bob Waxon-Flaxon, a main organizer of the protests. “All we ask for is a lowly 12 without doing any work,” said Waxon-Flaxon, “and the instructors have failed to satisfy even that. We strongly feel that we are being oppressed.” Some stated that the requirements to take actual courses relevant to their discipline were holding them back from their real interests, stating that they “just want to learn about water, obscure latin words, and gemstones.”

Third-year BHSc Amy Kallim was equally critical: “Do I look like an engineer to you? I just want to go to medical school, where all of my problems will be solved. How can I be expected to sacrifice my role as VP Internal Admin on OMSAS Club to do Mastering Chemistry?!” When told that medical school workload was actually greater than that of the average engineer, Kallim regressed to an unresponsive state and could not be reached for further comments.

At press time, an online referendum to cancel all health and science course requirements in the BHSc program had only three signatures. It is unclear why BHSc students seemed to take no action on an issue they had been incessantly complaining about.
