BHSc Goes Digital

After thorough consideration, McMaster University has decided to open its world- renowned Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) program to students online. The idea was proposed when professors began noticing an increasing percentage of students demonstrating signs of enjoyment during their lectures. “We don’t know if they’re actually taking notes or on Facebook, but why would anyone be smiling during a lesson about health economics unless they were paying attention to something else?” said one of the professors. From the start, this program has been met with criticism sparking questions from “Will this increase my chances of getting into med school?” to “Will this prevent shoulder cramps during group work?” To add more insult to injury, it is reported that the online program will use the server space previously dedicated to LearnLink (#RIP). For courses which require physical presence, Virtual Reality (VR) alternatives have been put in place. It is to be noted that the VR headset cost will not be included in the tuition. McMaster University will be taking 50% of every VR headset payment as compensation for profits lost due to the lack of meal plans purchased by online students. Despite the controversy, the education board has approved this program to launch next year.
