In a recent MS Teams posting under the “Sticky Note Wall” of the BHSc Community virtual home base, the BHSS has announced new updates to clubs policy. Seemingly competing with MSU clubs to see which organization is more capable of angering the student body most rapidly, the changes will significantly impact hiring practices in the upcoming school year.
Under Section 2.3a of the three-section document, titled “An Inquiry into Fair Hiring Practices: Diversity Hiring,” the new BHSS Constitution states that all BHSS clubs must consist of “at least one (or more) non-BHSc students on the executive board.” When Olivia Mendoza, the current BHSS President, was asked to provide a comment, The Procrastinator was told that these new bylaws will increase inter-faculty cohesion by “incorporating BHSc rejects into the community,” giving them a strong sense of false hope for their second year transfer applications.
These new policies have thrown many clubs into disarray. Promotion committees are scrambling to find new online forums to advertise their applications aside from the BHSc Opportunities/Clubs/Advertisements Facebook page. Die Versité, president of the Interstitium Collaborative Union Planners (i.e. ICUP), told reporters about her concerns for the upcoming year. “Our club only started last year. If we can’t find a non-BHSc student to hire, I’m scared that we’ll be disbanded before I can even put this on my next autobiographical sketch for OMSAS!”
Essai Reuter, a Political Sciences major, also criticized the new policies. “I’m not sure the BHSS is aware of what ‘diversity hiring’ actually means. Are all BHSc students like this?!”
