I was once like you too.
Ah, Valentine’s Day…
As the day dons its rose-tinted glasses and the world begins selling heart-shaped everything, allow me, a once single person such as yourself, to impart two pieces of wisdom on why it’s perfectly acceptable–commendable even–to spend Valentine’s utterly alone.
- Acknowledge the freedom the comes with singlehood
While others are shackled to the whims of their significant other, you singles are free as birds, soaring through the skies of independence. As a single person, you will never need to debate netflix choices (me and my bf are down to watch anything together so this doesn’t affect us), meal preferences (I love everything he cooks for me and vice versa) or argue over who cleans the bathroom this week (again, I have never experienced this problem 😏). Solitude is a warm embrace once you begin to see it that way. Who needs candlelit dinners and rose petal covered sheets (that’s what my bf did for me last Valentine’s lol), when you have Hinge profiles to browse?
- Never compare yourself to others
Try not to get phased by me and all the other couples posting pictures about how we got spoiled this Valentine’s day with gifts, flowers, and romantic dinners. You are a #girlboss and don’t need a partner to buy you these things. Just spoil yourself and create an aesthetic, elaborate post on Instagram that makes people question why their partners didn’t do something that special for them. Be the societal menace you were meant to be and be the reason why your friends break up this Valentine’s!
Now go forth and bask in the glow of solitude. Should you ever find yourself longing for companionship, fear not, for hugging your pillow is free and it’s always there for you to cry into while you contemplate your loneliness.
