White Pathogen Suits Signal Start of New BHSc Era

The newly announced pathogen white suit has made waves in the BHSc community. “Although I received no medical interviews this year, I can still tell my friends that I’ve received my white coat suit!” remarks third year student Milly Dee.

However, the introduction of white suits has led to rising tensions amongst the student population. Approximately 4592 Pathogen applications were received this year, up from 250 last year. The absurd number of applications baffled the Welcome Week Coordinators (WWC), who found that they received applications from different faculties, universities, and from previously graduated BHSc students. “We should have charged these students at least $125 to submit these applications,” exclaims Shrub “The Rock” Yeet, this year’s WWC.

To better handle the increased number of interviews, the Welcome Week executive team has opted to change their current interview model to a 12-station MMI panel. Future pathogens will go through stations ranging from “What is the worst change in the BHSc community in the last 10 years?” to collaboration stations where applicants must build LEGOTM structures together. The WWCs have told applicants to expect a 5% acceptance rate, with a very mobile wait list.

Physicians Pathogens can expect significant changes to training week as well. Instead of one week of boring training, Pathogens will instead be invited to a white suit ceremony! At this event, Pathogens will engage in the sacred tradition of painting stethoscopes around their collars. Photographers will also be present to take those iconic white suit instagram posts and profile pictures; don’t worry, parents and loved ones are invited too. However, as training is still a requirement for all Welcome Week representatives, each Pathogen will receive a copy of Doing Right, so they can help first years in ethically sound ways.

During Welcome Week, first years can also expect a multitude of fun, new activities. Last year’s successful event “You, Me, BHSc,” has been rebranded to “You, MD, BHSc”, where first years can learn how to receive their very own white suits coats. Pathogens will also hold interview prep sessions, and the yearly Welcome Week video has instead been substituted with the McMaster Medicine Admissions video. We’re excited to see all the new fresh faces next year, and don’t forget wolfpack, “What do we do? BLEED WHITE!”
